Oehms Classics

Founded in 2003 by Dieter Oehms, previously of the major record labels DG/Polygram and Arte Nova/BMG, German label Oehms Classics has been able to distinguish itself in many different fields during the seventeen years of its existence.
This was achieved by exploring repertoires that were not so popular with the other labels (such as the work of conductor Sebastian Weigle, who championed several major works of German and even Austrian comic opera), or supporting and promoting numerous artists from the new generation such as violinist Benjamin Schmid, pianist Herbert Schuch and, more recently, William Youn (magnificent complete work of Mozart's Sonatas) and Gabriele Carcano (beautiful Brahms recital).

Dieter Oehms is particularly fond of keyboards and always provides optimal recording conditions for his artists: On the organ, Hansjörg Albrecht records occasionally explosive transcriptions of the great romantic orchestral works, and in 2020 he has begun a complete work of Bruckner's symphonies transcribed for organ!
A recurring figure in German and Austrian music, French conductor Bertrand de Billy is a regular collaborator with Oehms Classics, as is the Gürzenich-Orchestra Cologne which, with its various conductors (Markus Stenz, Dmitri Kitayenko), has been able to explore great bodies of Romantic symphonic music, such as the symphonies of Mahler, Tchaikovski and Rachmaninov.
Other forgotten recordings, such as Winterreise with tenor René Kollo, will also catch your attention, but it will likely be Michael Korstick's Beethoven cycle - one of the most beautiful complete works of Sonatas from the early 21st century - and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski's often haunting interpretations (Bruckner, Brahms and Beethoven) that you will find yourself returning to most frequently. © Qobuz
