MPS
Diversity, audacity and quality: these are the characteristic features thanks to which the first German jazz label MPS—a production company from Schwarzwald—and its founder Hans-Georg Brunner-Schwer have received world-wide recognition. Between 1963 and 1983, MPS has built a catalog of 500 albums uniquely belonging to the jazz repertoire. Since 2014, MPS is owned by Edel SE.
From that moment, the catalog has continually expanded, the original master tapes were digitalized and all productions made available in digital format. Furthermore, the sought-after titles from the catalog only available on CD, tape or vinyl will be frequently rereleased in a superior quality, like the albums of Oscar Peterson, George Duke and Monty Alexander. Besides, after more than 30 years of creative break, the label’s activity has been relaunched. Therefore, new productions were released with, among others, albums from Rolf Kühn, China Moses, Malia, Robben ford & Bill Evans (sax), Malakoff Kowalski and Lisa Bassenge. These efforts were successful: they received 3 German ECHO Jazz awards. © MPS
