Laborie Jazz
Created in 2006, the label LABORIE Jazz has made a name for itself in recent years for strong artistic choices, which foreground young French and international composers. Beyond the question of artistic choice, the label has also won respect for its musical line-up, in a period which is complicated and hardly conducive to medium-to-long term investments. This combination, which is aimed above all at preserving creativity and career development, has been hailed at various times by the Victoires du Jazz, Django d’Or, Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros, Prix de l’Académie du Jazz, as well as many prizes from around the world.
The progress made by artists from this label has also attracted the attention of various organisers and directors of festivals which have played a big role in the incubation of such talents and their current fame, including Anne Paceo, Perrine Mansuy, Shai Maestro, Paul Lay, Yaron Herman, Michel Reis or Elodie Pasquier, to name but a few.
With help from the Mutualité Française Limousine since 2015, Laborie has taken its place in the front rank of French and indeed European independent labels. The professionals of the sector have repeatedly hailed this development, awarding it several distinctions:
- December 2015, "Grand Prix du Disque - Gus Viseur" for Sébastien Farges's album "Ségurel for ever"
- February 2016, the "Django Reinhardt" prize, given to pianist Paul Lay by the Académie du Jazz
- July 2016, les Victoires du Jazz "Artist of the Year 2016", as part of the Victoires de la Musique, awarded to Anne Paceo for her fourth album "Circles" on the Laborie Jazz label.
Laborie Jazz is also a major exporter. The label has managed a first among French labels of any kind: it has signed an exclusive distribution contract for physical and digital distribution in China, running from 18 August of last year, with the company Starsing Music, the main actor on the Chinese scene, but also in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
