Raphaël Feuillâtre

Guitarist Raphaël Feuillâtre was signed to the Deutsche Grammophon label in 2022. He has an affinity for Baroque music but performs repertory of many types, including contemporary. Feuillâtre was born in Djibouti in northeast Africa in 1996. He grew up in Cholet in western France, where his parents, although not musical themselves, recognized his talent after buying him a plastic guitar when he was seven. Feuillâtre enrolled at nine at the local Conservatoire du Choletais, studying with Hacène Addadi. He went to high school in the larger city of Nantes, continuing his studies with Michel Grizard at the Conservatoire de Nantes. Feuillâtre earned bachelor's (2017) and master's (2019) degrees at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP), studying with Roland Dyens, Tristan Manoukian, and Judicaël Perroy. After winning prizes at competitions in France, Spain, Portugal, and the Czech Republic, he scored a major breakthrough with a win at the International Concert Artists Competition at the Guitar Foundation of America. By that time, he had already issued the album Guitar Recital on the small JSM label, and the Guitar Foundation of America win brought with it the chance to record his own album for Naxos, released in 2019. Feuillâtre's concert career expanded rapidly after these competition victories. He toured North America, conducting master classes as well as performing concerts in more than 50 cities from the fall of 2019 through the spring of 2020. He later toured Brazil and other South American countries. He performed Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez on a five-concert tour with France's Orchestral Ensemble of Pau. Feuillâtre has been in demand at festivals, appearing at the Folle Journée de Nantes, the International Guitar Festival in Budapest, and the Changsha Guitar Festival in China, among other events. In late 2020, Deutsche Grammophon executive Angelika Meissner viewed a video of Feuillâtre's Guitar Foundation of America performances, and he was signed to that label two years later. In 2023, he released his debut Deutsche Grammophon album, Visages Baroques. In addition to performing, Feuillâtre teaches at the Music School of Villeneuve-la-Garenne in the Paris area.
