Peak Twins

It's common for two friends to try playing some music after a few beers too many, but not many of them end up making a career out of it. Peak Twins, however, are the exception: Liam Kenny (guitar and vocals, formerly of the Friendsters and Bitch Perfect) and Joel Carey (vocals and percussion, ex-Wolf & Cub) were two guys sharing a house with friends in Keswick, Adelaide, Australia in 2010 when after knocking back more than their share of drinks, they started jamming on some songs. They had a tape running at the time, and in the morning, to their surprise, the recording showed they had genuine promise, with Kenny's rough but incisive guitar lines facing off against the loose but quietly impassioned tone of Carey's vocals. Kenny and Carey began recording more seriously, and called the new duo Peak Twins, in homage to David Lynch's cult-favorite television series Twin Peaks. A digital EP, I'm Out, was released as a free download in March 2011, and the duo assembled a band for live shows, featuring Adelaide musicians James Mannix, Chad McLachlan, and Ben Quici. Hoping to raise Peak Twins' profile, Kenny and Carey relocated to Melbourne, though the band stayed home, catching up with the core duo when they went out on tour. The two Peak Twins found a warm welcome on the Melbourne indie scene, and in 2012 they released a split EP with the group Scott & Charlene's Wedding. In 2013, Bedroom Suck, the Australian indie label that worked with Scott & Charlene's Wedding and Bitch Perfect, signed Peak Twins, and their self-titled debut album appeared in late 2013, receiving an American release in 2014.
