Milli

Born Danupha Khanatheerakul on 13 November 2002 in Bangkok, the politicised Thai rapper known as Milli gained national attention with her debut multi-lingual single "Phak Kon" (พักก่อน) in February 2020, which sees her rap using Lu, Isan, and English. She followed it up with the empowerment anthem "Sud Pang" (สุดปัง) later that year and won the Best New Asian Artist Thailand at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards, also receiving a Rising Star award at the 2020 KAZZ AWARDS. After initially developing an interest in hip-hop artists like Thailand's Pumpuang Duangjan and Nicki Minaj at school, Milli turned her hand to rapping as a vehicle of self-expression while she was still in second grade. She took her first steps towards fame on Thai reality competition show The Rapper 2 in 2019 and was signed with rap-focussed Thai label YUPP!. She continued adding to her repertoire with a string of singles in 2021, including "To the Max" and "Not Yet!", and that same year wound up in the spotlight after she was fined by Thailand's military government Prayut Chan-o-cha for criticising its poor response to the COVID-19 pandemic on her Twitter account. Her debut album Babb Bum Bum emerged the following year and that April, she made history as the first Thai solo artist to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. In November 2022, Milli dropped her new single "Welcome", the opening track from Babb Bum Bum.
