Miguel Harth-Bedoya

Peruvian conductor Miguel Harth Bedoya was raised by a mother who was a choral conductor and with a sister who plays guitar. Harth Bedoya studied at the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in conducting. His teachers included Otto-Werner Mueller, Gustav Meier, and Seiji Ozawa. From 1993 to 1998, Harth Bedoya worked in Peru with the Orquestra Filarmonica de Lima and the Contemporánea de Opera. In the United States, he conducted the Norwalk Youth Symphony and the New York Youth Symphony. As a member of the Juilliard faculty, Harth Bedoya also served as a staff conductor for the New York Philharmonic. Other positions he held were music director of the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, assistant conductor and later associate conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, music director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and principal conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. He has conducted modern and contemporary repertoire, and given premieres of major works by Osvaldo Golijov, Jennifer Higdon, Celso Garrido-Lecca, Enrique Iturriaga, and Jimmy Lopez. Harth Bedoya is a professor of conducting at Texas Christian University. He has recorded for Harmonia Mundi, Pentatone Classics, Avie, and Naxos.
