Lucifer

Formed in 2014 after the dissolution of Berlin-based vocalist and songwriter Johanna Sadonis' previous band the Oath (an occult-themed doom/punk/hard rock project with Swedish guitarist Linnéa Olsson), Lucifer further explores her fascination with the dark side, but with a proto-metal and blues-rock twist. Drawing inspiration from classic rock bands like Blue Öyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin, the band, which also included bass player Dino Gollnick, drummer Andrew Prestidge, and Cathedral guitarist Garry "Gaz" Jennings, inked a deal with Rise Above Records shortly after forming. Their debut long-player, the aptly named Lucifer I, appeared in 2015. Prestidge and Jennings departed amicably the following year, making room for Hellacopters guitarist/vocalist and Entombed drummer Nicke Andersson, who also happens to be Sadonis' husband. After relocating to Stockholm, Sweden, the band began work on their sophomore effort, Lucifer II, which arrived in July 2018 and charted in five countries. Two years later, the group issued Lucifer III, which earned a nomination for Best Hard Rock/Metal at the 2021 Grammis awards in Sweden. The band showed no signs of slowing down, releasing the acclaimed Lucifer IV later that October.
