Liza Stepanova

Pianist Liza Stepanova has pursued an active career as a concert soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, and educator. She attended the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where she studied piano with Joseph Kalichstein, Seymour Lipkin, Jerome Lowenthal, and George Sava. Working with Wolfram Rieger, Stepanova studied art song accompaniment, and was a guest of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau at his master classes at the Hugo Wolf Lied-Fest. She received her DMA at the Juilliard School, and taught there and at Smith College. As artistic director and program director, she has participated in the SongFest at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Stepanova has been a guest artist at many international festivals, including the Davos Festival in Switzerland, the Salzburg Schlosskonzert, Music@Menlo, and the La Jolla SummerFest. She has performed with violinist Cho-Liang Lin, violist James Dunham, clarinetist Charles Neidich, soprano Lucy Shelton, and mezzo-soprano Susanne Mentzer. An advocate of new music, Stepanova has given premieres of works by John Harbison, Gabriela Lena Frank, and William Bolcom, and performed pieces by John Adams, Robert Beaser, Tom Cipullo, John Harbison, John Musto, Tobias Picker, and Steve Reich. Stepanova is a member of the Lysander Piano Trio, and she has performed chamber music in the United States and Europe. She is an assistant professor in the piano department of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia.
