High Fidelity

A contemporary bluegrass group with a firm sense of tradition, High Fidelity play music that pays homage to the sound and feel of iconic artists of the '50s and '60s, such as Jim & Jessie, the Louvin Brothers, and the Stanley Brothers. At the same time, their performances have a youthful enthusiasm that gives the music a fresh sound, as do their instrumental skills and group harmonies. High Fidelity made a splash in the bluegrass community with their 2018 release Hills and Home, a showcase for their fusion of the past and present in bluegrass. High Fidelity formed in 2014 in Nashville, Tennessee; their name referred to the slogan describing newly improved recording techniques that often appeared on vintage bluegrass LPs of the '50s. The five members of the group had already gained valuable experience in the bluegrass community. Lead singer and guitarist Jeremy Stephens had worked with Jesse McReynolds & the Virginia Boys, as well as a latter-day version of the Chuck Wagon Boys. Fiddler Corrina Rose Logston, who also sings harmonies, was one of Stephens' bandmates with Jesse McReynolds, and also backed Jim Lauderdale, as well as releasing a solo album. Banjo player Kurt Stephenson first made a name for himself in 2010 when he was named National Bluegrass Banjo Champion at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. Bassist Vickie Vaughn's resume includes stints working with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless. And Daniel Amick, who handles mandolin, banjo, guitar, and harmony vocals, was the recipient of the 2019 Instrumentalist of the Year Momentum Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA). High Fidelity soon began playing out regularly and earning a reputation in the Music City, and in their first year together, they took first prize in the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America's annual International Band Championship. In 2016, they self-released their debut album, Hi-Fi Bluegrass, which earned positive reviews in the bluegrass music press, and High Fidelity went on to land a deal with the established bluegrass label Rebel Records. 2018's Hills and Home was their first album for Rebel, and its success led to High Fidelity being nominated for the IBMA's New Artist of the Year honors in 2019. In 2020, the group delivered their third album, Banjo Player's Blues.
