Harlœ

An independent-minded singer/songwriter and producer, HARLOE's take on alt-R&B focuses on her graceful vocals and relatable lyrics. On EPs and singles such as 2020's Rivers Run Dry and the following year's "Overthinking," she pairs the Grammy-nominated songwriting skills she honed with Ella Mai and Charli XCX with her own sultry, confessional style. HARLOE grew up in Queens, New York with a Ukrainian and Romanian family that loved music. She began classical piano lessons at age four; when she was 11, she realized she wanted to write songs after hearing Alicia Keys' "Fallin.'" Jazz and hip-hop became her biggest inspirations as she posted songs online and attended NYU's Clive Davis Institute. After spending a few years between New York and Los Angeles, she settled in L.A. to become a songwriter, penning tracks for Charli XCX, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, and Kelly Clarkson among others. In 2018, she earned a Grammy nomination for her work on Ella Mai's self-titled album. During this time, HARLOE launched her career as a performer, and released her first single "All in My Feelings" in late 2016; the smoothly confessional "More Than Ever" followed in 2017. Two years later, she appeared on Robin Schulz's "All This Love," and issued her own tracks "Rivers Run Dry" and "One More Chance." Both of these songs, along with "Crush on You," were collected on March 2020's Rivers Run Dry EP. That year, HARLOE also collaborated with Sak Pase on "Need You" and released the holiday single "Just Ain't Christmas." Early in 2021, the Rivers Run Dry Remixes EP featured reworkings of her previous release by Latroit and Pretty Garter. She took a vintage soul and disco-inspired approach on singles such as "Liquid Truth," "PWR RNGR," and "Overthinking," which HARLOE recorded at Abbey Road Studios with contributions from Nile Rodgers. She gathered these tracks on an EP that arrived late in 2021.
