Active since the early '90s, Geoffroy is a veteran of Belgium's dance music scene. Born Geoffroy Dewandeler, he came out of the country's storied New Beat scene of the late '80s, and started spinning acid house, techno, and other styles during the '90s, with regular gigs at Ibiza and in the U.K. as well as in his homeland. He ran the popular Belgian club Food, and mixed several volumes of Moving House compilations in association with the club. In 2004, he began releasing tech-house tracks and remixes under the name Mugwump. Early Mugwump releases, such as 2004 debut 12" "Mudcleaner," were co-produced by Jean Vanesse and Thomas Sohet. Maxime Firket also contributed to the 2007 single "Memory Lane Refund." Eventually Kolombo (Olivier Grégoire) became Geoffroy's main collaborator, and Mugwump shifted to more of a disco-influenced sound. Numerous singles arrived on well-regarded labels such as Kompakt, R&S, International Deejay Gigolo, and Cocoon. Geoffroy used the William S. Burroughs-inspired Mugwump handle for his solo DJ sets, but the name also referred to his live band, featuring bassist/vocalist Stephane Fedele, guitarist Thomas Stadnicki, and drummer Lukas Melville. The band's sound embraced additional influences such as post-punk, funk, coldwave, and Krautrock, and their debut album, Unspell, arrived on Geoffroy's Subfield label in 2015. Mugwump's Metempsycho EP followed a year later, and in 2017 Geoffroy revived his Moving House compilation series with Moving House 2017. ~ Paul Simpson
