Florian Noack

Pianist Florian Noack has mostly specialized in Russian music. He has also begun a career as an educator. Noack was born on January 15, 1990, in the Auderghem district of Brussels. He took up the piano at age four. In 2002, he entered the Young Exceptional Talents program of the Queen Elisabeth Chapel in Brussels, studying with Yuka Izutsu. His long career as a prize-winner began in 2005 with no fewer than eight competition victories in Belgium. As a teen, he was influenced by the book Piano Music by Guy Sacre and gravitated toward virtuoso repertory by the likes of Charles-Valentin Alkan, Nikolai Medtner, and Sergei Lyapunov. That tendency was intensified when Noack enrolled in 2006 at the Musikhochschule Köln in Germany, where he studied with Vassily Lobanov and was introduced to Russian repertory and to a philosophical way of approaching it. He continued to win prizes during this period, including a second prize and an audience prize at the International Rachmaninov Competition in Moscow in 2010. After graduating, Noack went on to study at the Musikhochschule in Basel with Claudio Martinez-Mehner. By this time, Noack was already an experienced recording artist, having made his debut in 2013 with an album of music by Lyapunov on the Ars Produktion label. He recorded several more albums for that label during the 2010s. Noack rounded out his education with master classes from Ferenc Rados and Rita Wagner in 2019 and 2020. Noack has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, the WDR Rundfunkorchester, and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, among other groups, performing at such prestigious venues as the Kölner Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Beijing Concert Hall and Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, among other Chinese halls. He is in demand at festivals in France, including the La Roque d'Anthéron and La Folle Journée, the U.S. (the Miami Piano Festival), and beyond. Noack moved to the La Dolce Volta label in 2018 for the recital Album d'un Voyageur and went on to record music by Prokofiev and Lyapunov for that label before switching gears in 2024 with I Wanna Be Like You, an album of piano transcriptions and paraphrases.
