DIJON

Born in Columbia, SC, singer Dijon was only 14 years old when he released the moving single "A Kid's Point of View." Since he was three years old he had been singing along to the gospel music his parents would often play. Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams became favorites thanks to his family, but he discovered Brandy, Chris Brown, Usher, and even Reba McEntire on his own. Unaware of genres at this point, music was just music to the young Dijon, and combining a bit of Franklin's style with Usher's came naturally. It was this quality, along with a strong stage presence, that earned the now nine-year-old Dijon a standing ovation at a South Carolina talent show that happened to be attended by talent scout Will Boyles. Boyles signed Dijon to Kollosul Entertainment, whose management would groom the singer and eventually broker a deal with Verity Records, part of the Jive family of labels. In 2007 they introduced Dijon with "A Kid's Point of View," a song that focused on divorce from the children's viewpoint. Dijon helped write the words based on his own experience with his parents' separation, and the track immediately connected with listeners. It also became the title track to his full-length debut, a half-R&B, half-gospel album that appeared that same year.
