Damares

Lovingly dubbed as the “Diva of Pentecostal Music” in her home country, Damares Alvez Bezerra de Oliveira (born on January 30, 1980) is a Brazilian gospel singer and religious minister. Raised in a Christian household in Rio de Janeiro, Bezerra started singing at her local church from a very young age, and released her official studio debut, Asas de Águia (1997) when she was just 17. She followed up with A Vitória É Nossa (2000) and Agenda de Deus (2002), and had her big breakthrough with O Deus que Faz (2004), which obtained double gold certification after selling more than 100,000 copies. More success followed with Diário de um Vencedor (2006) and Apocalipse (2008) which, propelled by the hit single “Sabor de Mel,” earned Bezerra a Revelation of the Year at the Troféu Talento Awards in 2009. After the release of the live CD/DVD A Minha Vitória Tem Sabor de Mel - Ao Vivo (2009) and its subsequent tour, the singer returned with Diamante (2010), a massive blockbuster that sold more than 500,000 copies in her native Brazil and won a Troféu Promessas for Best Album. Following a couple of high-profile appearances on TV shows and religious music festivals, Bezerra released O Maior Troféu (2013), which peaked at Number 4 on Billboard’s Gospel Brasil 50 and was eventually certified diamond. In 2016, Obra Prima, her ninth full-length, broke all records by obtaining gold status before its actual release and was followed by Superação in 2020.
