Cobblestone Jazz

Canadian collective Cobblestone Jazz combine jazz harmonies and swinging improvisation with electronic grooves and techno traditions. The group emerged in 2002 and garnered buzz playing electronic festivals and releasing a series of EPs and singles, leading up to their 2007 full-length, 23 Seconds. A sophomore album, The Modern Deep Left Quartet, arrived in 2010. They have remained favorites on the global festival circuit, issuing EPs like 2015's Northern Lights and 2023's Hip Waders. Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Cobblestone Jazz features pianist Danuel Tate, along with DJs and electronic producers Tyger Dhula and Mathew Jonson. They are also sometimes joined by DJ/producer Colin De La Plante (aka the Mole). They initially met in the late '90s while performing in the Victoria club scene and formed Cobblestone Jazz in 2002. That same year they released the 5th Element EP. Tours followed, including appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival and MUTEK in Montreal. More singles and EPs paved the way for the release of the group's full-length debut, 2007's double-LP 23 Seconds, on the German !K7 label. A year later, they embarked on their first tour of the United States and issued a string of EPs on the Wagon Repair label, including Traffic Jam, Chance, and Lunar Lander. A second full-length, The Modern Deep Left Quartet, arrived in 2010. Named after their side project with La Plante, the album found them diving deeper into dub, techno, and electronic influences. An EP, Northern Lights, appeared in 2015. They also performed at the 2022 NEOPOP Festival in Portugal before returning with the Hip Waders EP in 2023.
