Blue Chamber Quartet
Comprising Angelika Siman on harp, Thomas Schindl on vibraphone, Julia Bartha on piano, and Holger Michalski on double bass, the Blue Chamber Quartet was formed in 2005 by classically trained musicians from Vienna and Göttingen who were interested in showcasing their talents in jazz and international music. The group's debut performance at the 2007 Carrick Water Music Festival in Ireland led to its first CD on Stockfisch Records, First Impressions. The 2009 recording of Chick Corea: Children's Songs was followed in 2015 by Rhapsody in Blue on Coviello, an album of music by Leonard Bernstein, Isaac Albéniz, Mark Glentworth, Allen Shawn, and George Gershwin. In repertoire that ranges from Sergey Prokofiev to Astor Piazzolla, the quartet strikes a balance between genres, though its emphasis on jazz improvisation and Latin-American rhythms has increased its popularity as a crossover group. The Blue Chamber Quartet appears frequently at music festivals and gives chamber concerts internationally.
