BamBam

This R&B-infused, Bangkok-born singer and rapper got his break in 2014 after joining the South Korean boy band GOT7. The multi-lingual and multi-award-winning septet sent three albums and nine EPs to the Korean number one spot prior to their split from JYP Entertainment in early 2021. GOT7 also enjoyed modest success in the U.S., but it was in his homeland that BamBam ultimately became a household name. His status as an influential and ubiquitous social media figure in Thailand far outstripped the level of fame he achieved in Korea, even as part of a chart-topping collective. As an attempt to redress that balance, he issued a solo EP, Ribbon, in June 2021, following this with B in 2022. BamBam was born Kunpimook Bhuwakul in 1997, ultimately taking his performing name from The Flintstones character, Bamm-Bamm Rubble. Sadly, as a three-year-old, he was one of four siblings who lost their father early in life. He subsequently took an interest in Korean culture, partly inspired by his mother taking him to see the K-Pop artist Rain in concert. He had an enthusiasm for music, particularly singing and dancing and, for a short time, he was part of a dance crew which included future BlackPink star Lisa. At the age of 13, he moved to South Korea after passing an audition on the Thai leg of JYP's World Tour. He cemented his place in GOT7 three years later, following appearances on the reality TV show Who Is Next: WIN. In April 2017, three years into his GOT7 career, BamBam collaborated with numerous Thai artists -- including Jaylerr and Captain Chonlathom -- on a single entitled "Make It Right," released to promote a Yamaha motorcycle. Later that year, GOT7's eighth EP, 7 for 7, became their first to feature music co-composed by BamBam. The jazzy, keyboard-led ballad "Remember You" saw him step beyond his previous lyrical contributions, a trend that continued for the remainder of GOT7's tenure with JYP. Just prior to their contract ending, BamBam quietly put out a solo single, December 2020's "Beat Your Best," released in support of an energy drink. Next he signed with Abyss, which issued his debut solo EP, Ribbon, in June 2021. Before the end of the year, his single "Who Are You" -- a collaboration with Red Velvet's Seulgi -- preceded his second EP, January 2022's B.
