At more than 80 years of age, Ghana's Ebo Taylor, pioneer of highlife and afrobeat, still performs like a dream. Since his public, international resurrection in the late 2000s, the now-legendary Ghanaian, at the head of his Saltpond City Band, an orchestra of dazzling brass and irresistible grooves, has released this compilation, Yen Ara (Us), to prove that musical vivacity has nothing to do with age. Englishman Justin Adams (Robert Plant, Tinariwen, JuJu…), more used to groups where guitars dominate, has done a dynamic production job, where every instrument – brass, organ, percussion, bass guitar and MC's voice – is allowed to shine, while fitting neatly into the overall puzzle. Aromas of jazz, funk, afrobeat and disco flow together and push us inexorably towards good cheer and the dancefloor. © Benjamin MiNiMuM/Qobuz

Reggaeton in 10 Albums

A combination of Jamaican dancehall, American hip-hop, Caribbean rhythms and Spanish wit, reggaeton has, since its birth in the early 90s, shaken the world of pop music time and time again. From DJ Playero’s first mixtapes to Daddy Yankee’s “Barrio Fino” and Don Chezina’s “Tra-Tra-Tra, Puerto Rican musicians and their Colombian counterparts in Medellin have done their utmost to take over the world. In the last decade, they have done just that thanks to artists such as Luis Fonsi, J. Balvin and Bad Bunny. Read on for 10 of the genre’s most important albums. Reggaeton won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

The World According to Peter Gabriel

A figurehead of the British prog rock scene with Genesis, Peter Gabriel, who will turn 70 on February 13th, later became a champion of world music and an example of the politically engaged artist, through his label Real World, his Womad festivals and of course the protest song “Biko”, etched into the history books and made famous from the Amnesty International tour concerts. Let’s take a look back at the career of a pop star not like the others.

Brigitte Bardot, singing in the sun

With the release of François Bagnaud and Dominique Choulant’s book “Moi je joue”, we’ve taken the opportunity to dive in to Brigitte Bardot’s singing career. From the sweet idleness of La Madrague to the brazen freedom of Harley Davidson, Bardot has embodied a multi-faceted French pop music.
