Needtobreathe frontman Bear Rinehart offers up his solo debut under the name Wilder Woods. Taking a break from his longtime faith-influenced pop/rock outfit, Rinehart began working with Nashville-based indie rock producer Gabe Simon (Kopecky), on a personal set of songs that reflected his journey as both a father and husband. Naming the project after his two sons, Wilder and Woods, he and Simon recorded this eponymous full-length album, imbuing the arrangements elements of vintage R&B, soul, and folk. From the slinky grooves of "Electric Woman" to the retro-soul of "Supply & Demand," Rinehart expands his range and puts a different spin on what fans have come to expect based on his chart-topping output with Needtobreathe. ~ Timothy Monger

The Golden Age of American Indie Rock in 10 Albums

After a decade dominated by synthetic music, guitars made a vigorous comeback in the 90s. They made their way into all corners of independent rock, independent from the system and the mainstream. An alternate style that was born out of the subversive and homemade spirit of punk found in Lou Reed's Velvet Underground as well as Iggy Pop's Stooges. Let’s take a look at 10 essential indie rock albums from the 90s.

Shooting Big Star

It took a short legacy of only two years and three albums for Big Star to enter the rock 'n' roll pantheon. Unsuccessful in the beginning of the 70’s, Alex Chilton and Chris Bell’s band is now acclaimed as one of the most influential of its kind.

Marc Ribot, the anti-guitar hero

For thirty-five years, Marc Ribot’s name has been on the covers of albums by Tom Waits, Alain Bashung, Diana Krall, John Zorn, Robert Plant, Caetano Veloso and numerous other artists, and when he's not busy lending his unique guitar to others, the New Yorker takes pleasure, under his own name, in breaking down and re-building rock, jazz, funk, Cuban music and anything his fingers touch.
