In 2018, Led Zeppelin celebrated their 50th birthday, but the only "present" on offer is a beautiful book which will come out on sale in Autumn. Around thirty years ago, Seattle became the epicenter of the rock scene, largely thanks to grunge music. The grungy, ‘I don’t care’ attitude rose from the ashes of punk, heavy metal and alt-rock, and instantaneously went from an underground movement to a worldwide success. Perhaps too quickly embraced by the very system it rebuffed, it almost became a caricature of itself by the end of the 1990s. Let’s look back at ten albums that defined the genre.
In the autumn of 1969, four young lads from Birmingham crammed themselves into a studio in London for what looked like their last chance at making a career in music. They had 24 hours to record and to change their lives forever. They left the studio with “Black Sabbath” an eponymous debut album from the band led by Ozzy Osbourne and guitarist Tommy Iommi that would turn a whole generation onto heavy metal. Let's look back on this sonic revolution.
