The solid first season of The Mandalorian ends with a thrilling finale, both onscreen and on Ludwig Goransson's score. The best moments coincide with the droid IG-11's heart-pounding heroics, including the wild electronics of "Nurse and Protect" (which sounds like something Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross could create), the swelling "Sacrifice," and, spoiler alert, "A Warrior's Death." It's high drama throughout, as Goransson amplifies the dread on "The Ewebb" and cranks up the intensity for the final conflict of "Mando Flies." As far as successful scores go, The Mandalorian: Chapter 8 -- and the series as a whole -- succeeds in firmly bonding Goransson's stylistic vision and the catchy leitmotifs to this property, becoming an indelible part of the entire experience. He's taken a pressure-loaded, decades-spanning legacy and created something fresh and new for Star Wars, just as creator Jon Favreau's television show has done for the universe's visual element.

In your panoramas...
The Stylish Henry Mancini

Sophistication, humour, sensitivity… These are the words that often come to mind when describing Henry Mancini’s music. 23 years after his death, he is still seen as a major and influential pop composer. No doubt because, in addition to his glossy and light works for which he is renowned (notably Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Pink Panther), he also knew how to display the complexity of his musical language in more tormented compositions.

Nils Frahm, An Atypical Piano Master

Hailed by critics of classical music as well as amateurs of the electronic genre, Nils Frahm’s talent has brought harmony between the two worlds for the last ten years. Whether he plays on a church organ or a synthesiser fitted with effect pedals, the German pianist is always looking forward, and that’s what makes him so appealing.

Pedro Almodóvar in the Groove

Pedro Almodóvar, has always given music pride of place in his films, whether existing pieces, or new compositions. He quotes a character from one of his first films: "Music tells the truth about life".
