In this album dedicated to symphonic poem, Emannuel Krivine and the Philarmonic orchestra of Luxembourg bring two of the greatest composers: Alexander von Zemlinsky and Richard Strauss. La Petite Sirène follows the Andersen’s recital: king of the sea’s kingdom, storm and the Prince falling in the water, Prince’s rescue by the mermaid, transformation of the mermaid into wife by the witch, lack of love from the Prince who married another, death of the mermaid. It is said that this album was the mean for Zemlinsky to exorcise his sorrow when Alma Schindler, the wife he loved, married Gustav Mahler. So, Till Eulenspiegel which come alive the universe of a character from the northern-germany literature - acrobac who lived in Middle Ages - transcend the style by an orchestral and melodic verve. This satiric album devoted the compositer’s international success.

The Paradox of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Studio

This is an interview with an exceptional musician, who discusses his unique approach to working on classical music in the studio.

Fabio Biondi & Europa Galante, 30 years of freedom

The Italian violinist and conductor Fabio Biondi, notably famous for his rendition of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi with his ensemble Europa Galante, is one of the musicians who actively spurns the idea of separating and compartmentalising music. We take a look back at the career of one of the most versatile and open-minded classical musicians of our time, and an essential figure of baroque violin.

Strauss & Kempe: Elective Affinities

The name of conductor Rudolf Kempe (1910-1976) is indissociable from those of composer Richard Strauss and the Dresden Staatskapelle orchestra. As Warner is now re-releasing the recordings made between 1970 and 1975, Qobuz is putting the spotlight on the Straussian legacy of a precise, often incisive conductor, who always paid the greatest attention to the text and its charms.
