Almost ten years ago the hit Like A Hobo took the world by storm. With Square 1 Charlie Winston releases the album of a now accomplished and confident musician, freed from outside expectation and now dedicating all his artistic talent to his music. Here the Brit soars on a collection of bright and joyful songs. The album has a dancing pop style with an amplified beat (Feeling Stop) along with some trademark Jazz and Soul. Since the beginning Winston has been known for enjoying these vintage trends. His talent lies in bringing out this classy kitsch in his music. The Weekend is the ultimate old-but-gold hit, settling into the listener’s psyche and forcing them to get up and dance. Tremendously punchy on the one hand, Charlie Winston also has a more intimate side. With a melancholic piano theme, Airport is a moving ballad about farewells, which gives us a look into Winston’s more fragile side.
