Rudy Van Gelder, THE sound of jazz

Considered as the greatest inventor in the history of jazz music, Rudy Van Gelder was an artisan that worked with the greatest musicians in the post-war period for Blue Note, Impulse!, Prestige, CTI and Savoy.

Saxophone: The tenor’s big names

How did the saxophone, this instrument invented by a Belgian for military orchestras, become reserved to one genre? How did jazzmen get their hands on Adolphe Sax’s invention? This is the first part of a series devoted to the instrument’s giants, starting with the tenor—pay honor where honor is due— and its many adepts, from Coleman Hawkins to Wayne Shorter.

Peter Thomas in Orbit

In Germany they have their own Michel Legrand: his name is Peter Thomas! His eccentric film music left its mark on a whole generation of viewers in the 60s and 70s and since the 90s he has often been cited and sampled by young pop groups. The cult composer passed away on May 17th, 2020. We met him three years earlier, on the dawn of his 92nd birthday.
