Retrospective is an odd overview of Rosanne Cash's later recordings for Columbia, featuring a combination of hits, album tracks, rarities, and new songs. Which means, the album does contain hits like the number one "Runaway Train," but it concentrates on the lesser-known material, whether it was the minor hit "On the Surface" or Elvis Costello's "Our Little Angel." It's a good compilation, but it's a little unnecessary, since the albums it is culled from -- Interiors, The Wheel -- function better as individual albums, and don't lend themselves well to collections.

Ray Charles, a Stylist Under the Influence

A founding father of soul, whose career spanned half a century, Ray Charles cannot be reduced to a handful of famous hits. He is above all the master of the high-end musical crossover that makes an art of mixing genres, approaching one to better embrace the other. Ray Charles secularised gospel, enriched the blues, played jazz, sang country and approached rock'n'roll. Let's take a look back at his unique style based on the five listed here.

10 Legends of the Blues

June 21 marked 20 years since the death of a king of the blues: John Lee Hooker. But the blues didn't follow this giant into the grave. This genre, which has been being recorded for over a century, is still nourishing pop music of all kinds and producing great records. It's time to take a look back at the classics with ten historic blues musicians.

The Chicks in 10 Songs

One of the most polarizing bands around, the Dixie Chicks—as of June 2020, simply The Chicks—have never toed the line so many women in country music were once expected to.
