One year after the release of her superb My Woman, Angel Olsen opens her treasure chest with this collection of B sides, demos and unpublished rarities. Twelve tracks dug up from seven years of recordings, among which we find Special, an original piece from the My Woman sessions, or even the luscious Fly On Your Wall, escaped from the Our First 100 Days project. Even if all this isn’t as invaluable as the "real" records from the Missouri native such as My Woman or Burn Your Fire For No Witness which came out in 2014, this true-false compilation remains an essential piece in the mega puzzle of Angel Olsen, goddess of indie folk mottled with grunge, Americana and vintage sounds… © MD/Qobuz

Nick Cave: Bad Seed

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds remain one of the most prolific adventures of the post-punk era. Since the late 1980s, the vast magnetism of the Australian singer has swirled through violent paroxysms, fulminating covers, piano ballads and sweaty rock'n'roll. As the years went by, Cave became more and more of a crooner, part way between a punk Frank Sinatra and an austere Johnny Cash.

New Order: From Darkness to Dance-floor

How does one Mancunian group move from perhaps the gloomiest band of the punk era to a master of the dance-floor? In the early eighties, straight out of Joy Division’s ashes, New Order marked one of the first successful unions of rock’n’roll and dance music. A perfect soundtrack for a morose, Thatcherite England.

Britpop in 10 Albums

“If punk was about getting rid of hippies, then I'm getting rid of grunge.” It was with this sentence from Damon Albarn in 1993 that England invaded the stage previously dominated by Nirvana and Seattle grunge. Britpop is deeply linked to politics and local identity and emerged just as Tony Blair and New Labour were entering the scene. English romanticism was once again becoming attractive compared to the American identity, which was considered too hollow in the UK. Make way for “Cool Britannia”.
