The years fly by. Ten already! Nights Out is a golden nugget of synth pop from 2008 packed full of brooding hits such as Heartbreaker (with its squeaky door sample), A Thing For Me and Radio Ladio. With three synthesizers, a guitar, a nonchalant bass and falsetto choirs, the formula fed into the electro pop wave of the time, placing the group alongside the likes of Hot Chip. While much of the work from this genre remained in rather exclusive circles, Nights Out provoked a groundswell that affected a huge audience, despite its eccentric sound.

Mr Mount, who was already an experienced producer and mixer, was at the helm of this record. After releasing Pip Pain (Pay The £5000 You Owe) alone in 2016, he joined forces with Oscar Cash and Gabriel Stebbing for this second album, though Joseph still produced almost all of it himself. It’s a concept album about having a bad time on a night out, with songs that are sometimes gloomy (Night Out), sometimes playful (On Dancefloors), but always brilliant. Metronomy plays with delays, dissonances and ever-so-catchy melodies, which still sound just as good one decade on. And what better an opportunity to revisit this wonderful record than with this anniversary edition which includes unreleased tracks, B-sides and rare recordings. © Charlotte Saintoin/Qobuz

Tango: Sounds of the Río de la Plata

Rooted in dance and eventually becoming its very own artistic movement, the history of tango is an epic one; and its future truly looks limitless. A musical genre with hybrid origins, it remains one of the most incredible creations to come out of Río de la Plata. “It’s the only thing we don’t ask Europe for its opinion on,” wrote Argentina’s Macedonio Fernández, the man that young Jorge Luis Borges admired “to the point of devout and passionate plagiarism.” A number of coincidences in the late 19th century gave rise to this style of music. As musicologist Carlos Vega said: "no one really tried to create tango." And yet, here it is; complete with its own traditions and innovations, as well as its own golden age, ill-fated artists, myths and rituals.

Nils Frahm, an Atypical Piano Master

Hailed by critics of classical music as well as amateurs of the electronic genre, Nils Frahm’s talent has brought harmony between the two worlds for the last ten years. Whether he plays on a church organ or a synthesiser fitted with effect pedals, the German pianist is always looking forward, and that’s what makes him so appealing.

The Dark Side of the Moon: An Astronomical Success

Pink Floyd's ground-breaking album The Dark Side of the Moon was the result of a long creative process that began around 1968. A Saucerful of Secrets (the main track from the eponymous album) was, for Nick Mason at least, where it all began. Their next album Ummagumma (1969) gave each band member the opportunity to create a solo piece, though they would have to combine their talents if they wanted to hit the jackpot. Pink Floyd continued to search for the perfect record with Meddle, an album which highlighted their skills in the studio, and Atom Heart Mother, before they reached nirvana with The Dark Side of the Moon. And the album’s perfection hasn’t faded one bit.
