Weeping Icon

Part unrelenting noise and part socially charged vitriol, Brooklyn-based band Weeping Icon's approach to punk was one of the more caustic and explosive. The group tapped into the righteous anger of hardcore as well as the inhuman terror of industrial and harsh noise on their self-titled 2019 debut full-length. Weeping Icon came together with the 2015 breakup of guitarist/vocalist Sara Fantry and drummer Lani Combier-Kapel's shadowy rock group Advaeta. After the long-running band dissolved, Fantry and Combier-Kapel continued jamming together, exploring noisier material. They were joined by bassist Sarah Reinold and electronic noise contributor Sarah Lutkenhaus, and the new project took shape. Weeping Icon played around Brooklyn's D.I.Y. circles, focusing on a live show where tight songs were bridged by harsh noise or ambient interludes. This nonstop assault was replicated on the band's 2017 debut EP, Eyeball Under. Two years later, the group presented their self-titled debut full-length, jointly released by Fire Talk Records and Kanine Records.
