Entheogenic's self-titled debut created enough stir prior to its release that three labels bid for the release: the former U.K.-based Flying Rhino, the German-based Cosmophilia, and the Spanish 3D Vision Records; the album was ultimately released on 3D Vision. The band's absolute anonymity on the scene combined with intense interest it generated indicated the uniqueness that this album brought to electronic music. At first glance, their sound appears to be a polished amalgamation of Karunesh's Eastern sensibilities and midtempo ambient production. Upon deeper investigation, Entheogenic truly are a glossed-up later version of Shpongle. But whatever they might be, Entheogenic's arrival on the scene pushed the envelope for the potential of psybient -- and ultimately ambient electronica -- to a cutting-edge and mature level.
