Syntax

Formed in Sheffield in 2002, Syntax is an electronic music duo whose work has been extensively featured in American prime time TV series (Nip/Tuck, The O.C.) and feature films (The Invisible, Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Composed of musicians Jan Burton and Mike Tournier, a former member of electro outfit Fluke, the group made their studio debut with 2004’s Meccano Mind. Despite spawning the charting singles “Pray” and “Bliss,” which reached Number 28 and 69 in the UK, respectively, the album’s poor commercial reception led to the band’s dissolution shortly after its release. Despite their premature split, their song “Pride” continued to appear in several movies and TV shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Alice Nevers, le juge est une femme, which helped the song reach the Top 20 on the French Singles Chart in 2012. That same year, Burton and Tournier revived the Syntax moniker by popular demand and delivered Tripolar, the first installment of a trilogy of EPs.
