Say what you will about the vulgarities, drug use, and questionable angle on higher learning ("This one for dem colleges/Them bad hoes at Spelman") but rapper Trinidad James did an amazing thing with his debut single "All Gold Everything." The snaggle-toothed pimp cracked the Top Ten on both the R&B and rap charts with this weird Dirty South swagger fest, and that's with the song's creeping tempo, its heavy use of insider slang ("Hypebeasts, we know about cha"), and lyrics that need hellacious editing. Not only that, but the key line "Popped a Molly, I'm sweating (Woo!)" spawned a worthy Internet meme, while those OG Jordan's you bidded on just went up thanks to a well-placed mention.

Twenty years ago, the French Touch invaded the clubs and radio stations all over the world, putting France high on the map of electronic music. Qobuz tells you the story of 10 records which have left their mark on this golden era of French producers.
Can we imagine Guru without DJ Premier and De La Soul without Prince Paul? Behind every iconic rapper and cult group, there is a visionary producer who learned from his predecessors and developed his own sound. From the pioneer Marley Marl, who laid the foundations for modern production by showing what could be done with the first samples, to the shooting star J Dilla who, before his death at the age of 32, managed to leave a lasting mark on the genre, not to forget Bomb Squad’s sonic revolution and Dr Dre’s undisputed dominance on the West Coast. Here’s an overview of the studio masters that have ruled the hip-hop world for thirty years.
Daniel Dumile, alias MF DOOM, lived a thousand lives and his career was a succession of false starts and bright flashes. Before passing away on the 31st of October, 2020, Dumile had been a young virtuoso rapper welcomed with open arms by the music industry, then an outcast that sneaked back onto the scene through the back door after years of wandering (now masked), the 'go-to-guy' of independent rap during the 2000s and then some kind of Indie messiah as dubbed by Thom Yorke and Flying Lotus. Elusive, whimsical, a trickster and a money maker, DOOM rewrote the rules of rap music, rubbed people up the wrong way and paved the way for a whole generation of MCs.
