About Playlist
Beginning in the '60s, the term "library music" was coined to describe generic soundtrack music not intended for mass commercial release but to instead be used for film and television themes, tonal cues and scenic ambience. In Italy, this genre-unto-itself created a fertile scene which gave way to a seemingly endless catalog of wonderfully uncategorizable records being produced in the intervening decades by some of the most accomplished composers and musicians of the era. The lack of an intended audience gave them the latitude to experiment and take stylistic left turns across a wide spectrum of genres including funk, lounge, psychedelia, electronic, ambient and even avant garde dissonance, thus creating some of the best obscure music never heard.
