Nobresil-Mari Nobre

Mari Nobre is an actress, jazz and Latin pop vocalist, and frontwoman for the award-winning Brazilian jazz outfit Nobresil and the Mari Nobre Jazz Band. Nobre emigrated from Naples, Italy to the United States without any surviving family. Arriving in New York, she embraced her new life utilizing the many cultures of her upbringing. She is fluent in five languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and French; she's one of the few popular music singers able to perform in this way. As a result, she shows great versatility in both her musical choices and stage presence whether it be in a supper club, a jazz room, a disco, or a festival stage. She often performs in Brazil with world-renowned musicians including Djavan and Ivan Lins. After relocating to Los Angeles, she joined the Screen Actor's Guild and established herself as an actress in film, television, and voice-over work. She and bassist husband Leo Nobre, the musical director of Nobresil, founded the band in L.A. Their debut album, Original, was issued independently in 2014. It got the band a host of touring spots in Brazil and Europe, as well as the U.S. Two years later, sophomore offering Neobresil: In Brazil for Chrome was arranged by Grammy-nominated musician and composer Jovino Santo Netos, and the finished recording got airplay at over 750 jazz and smooth jazz stations across the United States and Canada, and netted the band a slate of headline gigs including the Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival where Bebel Gilberto opened the show for for them. In 2016, she issued the Latin pop single "Vida," and was diagnosed with cancer. Three weeks after her surgery, the Mari Nobre Jazz Band (with her husband on bass, Daniel Szabo on piano, and Angelo Metz on guitar) took the stage at UCLA's Jan Popper Theater and recorded the album Live and Alive: From Gershwin to Jobim. It was issued by Chrome in March 2017 to universal critical acclaim, and sparking American, Brazilian, and European tours. The album entered the jazz chart at number 16 in the late summer. Nobre also appeared on Little Boss' version of "Vida" that year.
