Julie Cherrier-Hoffmann

Versatile soprano Julie Cherrier-Hoffmann is in demand on operatic stages, as well as in art song, sacred works, and chamber music. She has made several recordings for the major Aparte label. Cherrier-Hoffmann is a native of Nancy, France. She attended the Conservatoire de Nancy, studying voice (with Christine Stutzmann), harp, chamber music, analysis, and musicology, graduating with several first prizes. She was a finalist in several international competitions and then joined the Opera Studio of the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome, studying with Renata Scotto and Danilo Rigosa. Cherrier-Hoffmann also had instruction from Cristina Pasaroiu, Jean-Philippe Lafont, and Sylvie Valayre and was encouraged by Teresa Berganza, among others. She held a residency at the Festival des Forêts in Compiegne, France. Cherrier-Hoffmann has a varied repertory of operatic roles, including the title role in Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette, Antonia in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, and Elle (The Woman) in Poulenc's La voix humaine. She is a popular recitalist, performing song cycles by Schubert, Debussy, Fauré, and many other composers. Cherrier-Hoffmann has performed with orchestras internationally, including the Munich Symphony, the China National Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in Mannheim, and numerous French regional groups; one of her orchestral specialties is Mozart's Exsultate, jubilate, K. 165. She has appeared in opera houses in France, Italy, Romania, and China, and her concert hall credits include appearances at such venues as the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Théâtre antique d'Orange in France, and Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her chamber music collaborators include such prominent names as cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Philippe Entremont. Cherrier-Hoffmann married conductor Frédéric Chaslin in 2018 and has recorded with him several times on the Aparte label, including on a 2023 recording of La voix humaine on which she sang the single vocal role.
