Fist City

Formed in Alberta, Canada by the Griffiths siblings, bassist/vocalist Brittany and guitarist/vocalist Kier, the noise rock-loving Fist City began playing shows around their hometown of Lethbridge in 2009. With the help of guitarist Evan Van Reekum and drummer Ryan Grieve, they didn't waste much time recording and releasing their first album, Hunting You. Released by the Cleveland label Dead Beat in 2010, the record was full of youthful energy and barely in-control guitar noise. They spent the rest of that year touring Canada and the States, while finding time to issue three more releases: a self-titled EP, a split EP with Vancouver’s Timecopz, and a cassette called Demos//Live Fisting. They remained almost as busy the next year, releasing a split cassette with the Moby Dicks and recording an album with Don Pyle of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet in the producer's chair. It’s 1983, Grow Up! was released by Black Tent Press in the summer of 2012 and the band headed out on an ambitious tour of North America that was highlighted by a show with Fucked Up at a Calgary Tattoo convention. Following that jaunt, Brittany Griffiths left the band to pursue other adventures, while their friend Lindsay Munro joined up to play bass. The group continued to play shows, including a month-long tour through the U.K., and put out a split single with Piss Test before Griffiths rejoined the band in the summer of 2013. Thanks to their successful U.K. trip, they were signed by Transgressive there and It’s 1983, Grow Up! was reissued with a bonus single. Another tour supporting the reissue followed, after which the band set up shop in Chicago's Electrical Audio Studios to record their third album. Produced by the Men's Ben Greenberg, Everything Is a Mess was released in the June of 2015 by Transgressive and found the band honing their sound and delivering classic noise rock in the style of the Wipers, Sonic Youth, and the fuzzier end of the Flying Nun spectrum.
