Eumir Deodato

The Brazilian musician Eumir Deodato de Almeida, known simply as Deodato, rose to prominence in the 1970s after releasing a brace of critically-acclaimed jazz rock albums featuring musicians such as bass player Stanley Clarke and drummer Billy Cobham.

The first of these albums titled 'Prelude' was released in 1973 and featured the single 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' which showcased de Alemeida's distinctive trademark Fender Rhodes piano playing. The track won him a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and the album went on to sell more than five million copies.

Whilst his own career as a musician was taking off, de Almeida was also becoming a sought-after producer and working with artists such as Bjork, Kool and the Gang, k.d. Lang, and many others. He helped produce more than 500 albums including 15 which went on to become certified platinum.

As a solo artist he has recorded more than 30 albums and has established himself as one of Brazil's most successful musical arrangers and producers.
