Delia Derbyshire Appreciation Society

Named in tribute to one of the key members of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Delia Derbyshire Appreciation Society are an ambient duo consisting of British musician Garry Hughes and New York-based Harvey Jones. The pair compose tranquil, romantic instrumentals on releases such as their eponymous 2017 debut. Both artists are music industry veterans. Hughes has played keyboards for numerous artists including Björk, Sly & Robbie, and the Art of Noise, released two solo albums in the 1980s, and co-founded Bombay Dub Orchestra in 2001. Jones has worked extensively with Chris Botti and Gabrielle Roth & the Mirrors, and appeared on recordings featuring Carla Bley, Sting, and Robert Fripp. The two have been friends since the '80s, but DDAS is their first project together. Utilizing dozens of analog synthesizers, Mellotrons, and effects, the duo craft warm, peaceful ambient compositions reminiscent of the genre's '70s pioneers. Their self-titled debut album was released by Six Degrees in 2017, preceded by the single "Blue Filter." The duo also recorded a cover of Fripp & Eno's "Evening Star." Wow and Flutter, their second full-length, followed in 2018.
