Darkoo

Fusing British and African styles with her deep vocal style, London-based Darkoo secured infectious hits with "Gangsta" and "Juicy," and was featured on the number one-charting drill hit "Body [Remix]." Growing up with ambitions of soccer glory, it wasn't long before Darkoo realized her potential in the music world: after honing her vocal skills through her school years, the MC released her debut single, "Gas Station," at just 16. Centered around sultry stories and deep-bodied vocals, Darkoo merged Afroswing, Afrobeats, and U.K. rap into a swinging, catchy style, and soon cultivated a strong domestic fan base with subsequent tracks like "Juice" and "Rover." In 2019, she had her breakout moment with hit single "Gangsta." Peaking at number 22 on the U.K. charts, the One Acen collaboration became a playlist staple with its earthy melodies, charismatic delivery, and laid-back production. After signing to Virgin EMI, she had a second hit with the 2020 Hardy Caprio collaboration "Juicy" (number 62), and experimented with faster-paced songs ("Kryptonite"), and internationally influenced sounds ("Cinderella"). In 2021, the vocalist made a number one chart appearance on Tion Wayne and Russ Millions' legendary "Body [Remix]." The track soon became the most successful U.K. drill song of all time, with the young vocalist's cocky, singular style proving a potent complement to the track's wide mix of collaborators. Her debut EP, 2 in 1, soon followed. With a name reflecting her hybrid music and identity, the project featured guest appearances from Tion Wayne, Unknown T, Blanco, and Gabzy.
