Angélique Mauillon

Angélique Mauillon is one of the few harpists to specialize in the historical versions of her instrument. She often performs in concert with her brother, baritone Marc Mauillon. Angélique Mauillon and her brother grew up in Montbéliard in eastern France, near the Swiss border. She began harp lessons there and enrolled at the Regional Conservatory of Lyon, studying modern harp with Christophe Truant, winning several prizes; she also pursued a program in musicology. Mauillon decided to focus on historical instruments and began studies with Eugène Ferré at the Lyon National Conservatory, receiving degrees with highest honors in 2002. She rounded out her education at the Scuole Civiche in Milan with Mara Galassi. Mauillon has a large repertory, including music of the 13th to the 18th century, and she has collaborated with ensembles specializing in medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music in both solo and ensemble roles. These have included Alla Francesca, Doulce Memoire, and Le Concert d'Astrée. In Baroque music, she often plays the rare triple harp as part of a continuo ensemble. She performs as a harp-and-vocalist duo with her brother Marc Mauillon, and the pair performed and recorded the first (and apparently still the only) complete version of Guillaume de Machaut's extended poetry-and-music work Le remède de fortune. At the other end of her chronological spectrum, the pair also often performs a recital of Italian Baroque music entitled Histoires de la famille. Mauillon teaches historical harps at the regional conservatories in Tours, Lyon, and Besançon. The Mauillons' recording of Le remède de fortune was honored with a Diapason d'Or by the French recording industry, and Mauillon has a catalog of some 15 recordings on which she appears in various roles. Most also feature Marc Mauillon. In 2021, the pair released Je m'abandonne à vous: Airs sur des poésies de la Comtesse de la Suze.
