The Seeds, in the version of two 1966 albums rolled into one (the eponymous album The Seeds and A Web Of Sound): a set that represents the best of their production. If their first album is essentially worth its weight in four huge tracks — the formidable Pushin' Too Hard as well as Can't Seem To Make You Mine, No Escape, Girl I Want you —, the Seeds move into higher gear with their second album A Web Of Sound by stepping out of their garage punk register to surprise with original music that undoubtedly influenced the psychedelic universe that would follow from 1967. Sticks, sticks and eight are ten. And four weary travelers from night to light as the burden that they bear grows heavy in the cloak of dark as passersby look and stare and are so unaware in the stained-glass world that surrounds them. As a siren cries and screams but is it for justice that they search the night ? What does it matter some say — they are so many. But just like all four-footed animals everyone needs someone. As a shadow from a striped pole tries its best to get you inside so you can run like IBM machines. And each drop of rain that falls are tears for all the injustice done. But a pledge: Sky, Daryl, Jan and Rick — The Seeds — will mount the great white stallion and go forth into the land of darkness and look for the switch to make it light. (Marcus Tybalt)
