On Friday the 5th of December 1980, three of the finest jazz and flamenco guitar players took to the stage at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre. The concert, known as Friday Night in San Francisco, became an instant classic that would leave a mark on generations to come. It reached the top of the charts in 1981, its year of release. The day after this feast of acoustics and pyrotechnics, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia did it all again. The same place, the same set of six strings (including both solo and group pieces). This album contains the audio of this second evening on the 6th of December 1980, which has remained unreleased until now. This gifted trio hardly need to prove themselves, but even so, they manage to escape the confines of the concert to produce their very own sonic world that mixes flamenco, jazz and rock. This Saturday night concert, which features a different repertoire, has the same spontaneity and informal vibe as the Friday night show. The notes seem to crackle and sparkle in the sky, creating an intoxicating rainbow of sensations! © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
