"Love to Love You Baby"'s 16 minutes and 48 seconds of arousal and refill -- ticklishly sensitive rhythm and fusion -- threw disco into a tizzy overnight, but the tonally starved blues-of-isolation on the B-side isn't to be missed, either: the broken promises Donna Summer bemoans in "Full of Emptiness"; "Need-a-Man Blues," with its unrequitedly sexy guitar rhythm as out of range of Summer's voice as she of satisfaction; the imaginary seaside hold-me in "Whispering Waves"; and "Pandora's Box," where Summer and guitar scream icily at one another as they turn their backs on each other's body music. Hunger without recourse; essential disco.

Nordic Electronic in 11 Artists

The musicians of Northern Europe have always brought their personal Arctic twist to all genres of music, and the world of electronic music is no exception. Here’s an overview of 11 Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish artists who have taken techno, house, disco and dub towards new horizons.

The 10 Records that Made the French Touch

Twenty years ago, the French Touch invaded the clubs and radio stations all over the world, putting France high on the map of electronic music. Qobuz tells you the story of 10 records which have left their mark on this golden era of French producers.

Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, Two Chic Guys

There’s more to Chic than just “Le Freak”! In the midst of disco madness, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards embraced the genre wholeheartedly. Preferring to hide in the shadows rather than bask in the limelight, the duo produced a flurry of influential funky hits. Nile Rodgers, the sole survivor of the duo, is now resurrecting Chic after helping Daft Punk on “Get Lucky”.
