This installment in the Varèse Sarabande series Great Composers is devoted to the film music of Elmer Bernstein, who composed the scores to such classic epic and Western films as True Grit, The Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven, The Shootist, The Great Escape, and the modern-day Wild Wild West, as well as My Left Foot, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Black Cauldron, and more. This collection includes themes and highlights taken from those soundtracks, and although soundtrack buffs should hear some of these works in their entirety, the collection isn't a bad introduction for newcomers to Bernstein's work.
