Will soundtracks created for fashion shows eventually replace film soundtracks? Sébastien Tellier certainly seems passionate about this eventuality, continuing his collaboration with Chanel. After Symphonic, composed by the electro-pop producer and singer for the spring-summer 2022 collection, Extatic has provided the music for the French brand’s autumn-winter 2022/2023 haute couture show. This release is a melting pot of all the different genres that the Parisian loves most. There’s just one track with vocals on the whole album, Mademoiselle, and Tellier recorded it alongside Charlotte Casiraghi, also an ambassador of the brand. It’s a Gainsbourg-inspired track that he intended to be delicate and finely ornate. As for the rest, Tellier used a mood board to compose elegant music to punctuate the show. It includes a mix of italo-disco deviations, dreamy melodies, retro-futuristic atmospheres and tributes to Gabrielle Chanel’s view of beauty. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz

Jean-Michel Jarre, 50 Years of Electronic Music

Qobuz looks back over the five decades during which the Frenchman expressed himself as an artist, a mad scientist, a visionary, a sucker for record breaking spectacles, an activist and now the torchbearer for artists struggling for fairer pay online.

Tango: Sounds of the Río de la Plata

Rooted in dance and eventually becoming its very own artistic movement, the history of tango is an epic one; and its future truly looks limitless. A musical genre with hybrid origins, it remains one of the most incredible creations to come out of Río de la Plata. “It’s the only thing we don’t ask Europe for its opinion on,” wrote Argentina’s Macedonio Fernández, the man that young Jorge Luis Borges admired “to the point of devout and passionate plagiarism.” A number of coincidences in the late 19th century gave rise to this style of music. As musicologist Carlos Vega said: "no one really tried to create tango." And yet, here it is; complete with its own traditions and innovations, as well as its own golden age, ill-fated artists, myths and rituals.

The Dark Side of the Moon: An Astronomical Success

Pink Floyd's ground-breaking album The Dark Side of the Moon was the result of a long creative process that began around 1968. A Saucerful of Secrets (the main track from the eponymous album) was, for Nick Mason at least, where it all began. Their next album Ummagumma (1969) gave each band member the opportunity to create a solo piece, though they would have to combine their talents if they wanted to hit the jackpot. Pink Floyd continued to search for the perfect record with Meddle, an album which highlighted their skills in the studio, and Atom Heart Mother, before they reached nirvana with The Dark Side of the Moon. And the album’s perfection hasn’t faded one bit.
