The late guitarist's last CD to be released before her premature death is her finest effort. Emily Remler's fluid technique brightens such seldom-heard numbers as Clifford Brown's "Daahoud" and her simplified arrangement of Claude Thornhill's lovely "Snowfall," as well as more relaxed tunes like "Sweet Georgia Fame." The polished rhythm section includes the masterful pianist Hank Jones, bassist Buster Williams, and drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith. Highly recommended.

Various Interprets

In your panoramas...
The Eternal John Coltrane

17th July 1967 marked the passing of the American saxophonist, at just 40 years old. The recordings he left behind have completely reshaped the history of his instrument, that of jazz and of 20th century music altogether.

Ornette Coleman is the question!

Great pioneer of free jazz, and majestic figure of the musical avant-garde of the 20th Century, the Texan saxophonist always inspired a strong reaction.

The Struggles of Nina Simone

Although today she is seen as one of the most original voices in jazz and soul, Nina Simone's life was anything but a smooth and gentle climb to the top. The woman who dreamed of being the first black American classical pianist had to struggle against others, against her own family, and even against herself.
