In 2015, after a long absence from the club scene, Japanese DJ and producer Soichi Terada, a pioneer of house music in his country in the early 90's, returned to the spotlight thanks to Sounds from the Far East, a compilation in the form of a flash-back curated by European house trendsetter, DJ Hunee, via the no less influential Dutch label Rush Hour. After taking advantage of his newfound popularity to tour the world, Terada decided to return to the studio to record his first album in twenty-five years and to come up with some new gems of atmospheric deep house which had become his signature. "I tried to remember the feeling of thirty years ago, but it was super difficult," says the producer, who unearthed those synths and drum machines from that period. So evidently, we find Terada’s typical sound on Asakusa Light, otherworldly synths always which always have this feel-good aspect like on his 1992 hit Do It Again. While Blinker reminds us that the Japanese man has long had a career in video game music, this album is mostly soulful house music, with tracks like Bamboo Fighter, Soaking Dry, From Dusk, having a slightly old-fashioned 90's charm, while the delightful Diving into Minds takes us back to the great era of Italian dream house. A record to keep safe and sound for the playlist of your next beach/garden/pool party. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
