It may not always be evident, but virtually every single artist of this genre has been influenced by the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti. Yet, the resulting sound is remarkably different. This is like how reggae dancehall is very different from the roots reggae of Bob Marley. This is why the "s" is very important in Afrobeats so as not to confuse it with Fela's Afrobeat. Afrobeats also has heavy influences from African genres such as Highlife, Fuji, and Apala music. Other music genre influences from the diaspora include hip hop, reggae dancehall, R&B, and even house. This year saw strong releases from Burna Boy, Wizkid, Falz, Asake, Réma, CKay, Bella Shmurda, Fireboy DML, and many more.
