Unlike Pluto

Idioma disponível: inglês

Unlike Pluto is the alias of LA-based DJ, producer, and songwriter Armond Arabshahi. Known for his eclectic blend of electronic music with jazz, rock, and R&B, he is also one half of the duo Why Mona with singer Joanna Jones (of Hamilton fame). An Atlanta native, he began playing piano at the age of 5 and then went on to master the guitar, the drums, and the clarinet. After being involved in a few bands during his teenage years, he became infatuated with electronic music. Taking his cue from established electronic artists like Deadmau5 and Skrillex, Arabshahi started posting his own tracks online under the Unlike Pluto moniker while pursuing a biology degree at Emory University. He slowly but surely built a substantial online following thanks to his remixes of tracks by Gorillaz and Diplo, which were posted on the music blog aggregator Hype Machine. After graduating, Unlike Pluto moved to Los Angeles and signed with Diplo’s Mad Decent label, who released his debut EP Show Me Love in 2016. The following year, he headlined his own tour to promote the single “Everything Black,” featuring vocalist Mick Taylor. 2018 marked the beginning of his Pluto Tapes project, in which he set out to release a new song every week. This resulted in the release of The Pluto Tapes: Volumes 1, 2 & 3, all released during 2019. That same year, Unlike Pluto issued the standalone singles “Stay and Decay,” “Coffee Stains,” and “Death in Paradise.” Messy Mind, his fourth full-length album, saw the light in 2020 and was followed by the singles “Quintana Roo,” “Sabotage,” and “Fallen Parachutes” in 2021.
