Timal

Young rapper Timal started putting out music in 2016, with a steady stream of songs culminating in the 2018 album Trop Chaud. Timal was born Ruben Louis in Saint-Denis, France, on July 10, 1997, before being raised in Champs-sur-Marne in Seine-et-Marne. He began recording and releasing hip-hop tracks in 2016 under the stage name Timal (which is drawn from his Caribbean heritage and refers to a member of the Dravidian people of southern India and Sri Lanka). His songs were posted to the video-sharing channel Daymolition, which showcases young rappers, picking up millions of views. In 2017, Timal released the single “Vatos,” which went gold and, in April of 2018, Timal released his first full-length album through Elektra France, Trop Chaud. The album sold over 10,000 copies in its first week of sale before going gold in July. Since then, he has had a continuous streak of single releases, including “Flics & stups” (2018), “Overdose” (2019), “Story” (2019), and “La 11” (2019). Timal returned in 2020 with his second album Caliente, which peaked at Number 2 on the French charts and featured special appearances by Maes, Leto, and PLK. The following year, he dropped his third full-length Arès. The album contained the single “La Beu beu,” a collaborative single with fellow rapper Jul that climbed to Number 18 on SNEP’s streaming charts.
